DIY UPS

Postby Hardware Junkie » Fri May 31, 2002 10:16 am

I've had 6 power failures over the past 2 days...it is starting to get on my nerves and do harm to my systems....

UPSs are looking nicer and nicer all the time, but I don't quite have the money to get a couple. Might look into this guys idea:

i picked up an apc with a 7 minute power reserve for 80 or so dollars from new egg. the way i see all you need is a couple minutes to shut down, then go and plug your computer into a gas generator till the lights come back on. as for the fridge... well food can always be replaced

Well unfortunately NewEgg does not ship internationally...otherwise I would have purchased stuff long ago from them.
Grand And Toy had a similar deal recently for 20Min versions. But I would need something that would send messages automatically to the computer to shut down.

That guy's a little more industious than I am! Great rig, tho' and well thought out. When I finally get one, it will be one of the better APC units. I like the way they are built. 8)

My apc plugs into my usb port and is supposed to save currently open files and shut down the system automatically, I have yet to test this of course. HJ why don't you just have the apc shipped to someone state side and have them forward it to you.
