   Amongst us is yet another conspiracy!!! the QWERTY format (look at your keyboard) was designed specifically to SLOW PEOPLE DOWN on type writers so the keys wouldn't jam! The original key layout and method was invented by a man by the name of Dvorak. The saddest part is Dvorak is available through windows key layout options, and allows you to type 30% faster than using that damned qwerty bull s**t. Why has this never been confronted!? I was FORCED to learn typing the SLOW ASS QWERTY WAY IN 7TH AND 8TH GRADE! And then 9th because public high schools are ignorant!!! Yet another f***ing conspiracy. I swear, this world blows!!! But you must not fall in to temptation, keep your pants on by all means!!! (cause I heard it bites too)

Does anyone else type like 50% faster on split keyboards? I just started to use the split keyboard on the other computer of the house and I type like 100 again, but when I get back to this flat one I get like 50 it's horrible. It's probably my damn long fingers and they get cramped.

I like the split keyboard a lot better. I have not noticed a speed improvement, but it does not bother my wrists as much after typing for a long time.

 :!: the split keyboard will keep your arm and wrist in a straight line, and the straight one will put an angle at the arm/ wrist connection- which puts an uneven strain on the muscles, causing fatigue.

I have known about Dvorak for awhile now. Takes some time to get used to. QWERTY was standardised and that is the reason its widely used.

No one is stopping you from relabeling your keyboard... :P

Aye, perhaps they aren't stopping me HJ... But they they forced me in the wrong direction! And millions of other high schoolers as well!! We had no choice! Where's the democracy in that!? Get off my back HJ, I'm riding this one all the way to edge of the horizon on my trusty steed, Hate.

My typing speed varies from day to day. Sometimes fast and other times slow as hell. I hve noticed that majority of times I am "beat" on a response by another poster. I use 2 methods of typing at times - 1) the "chicken peck" method and 2) I have ben trying to type "normal" but I have my own way. Its nice to be the odd duck sometimes.

All in all I cannot type when not looking at the keyboard.
