How fast can you guys type?

Postby Aibohphobia » Wed May 29, 2002 6:38 pm

Hey I was just wondering, as let's just say I'm in typing class, how fast you guys can type?

For me, I could type roughly 100 words a minute in actual letter typing, but now, about a year later and little practice, I type maybe 60.

I know that some of you must type very very very fast, as I type a post and within a minute or two I get an extensive reply.

I can't type very fast, so what I do is I prepare all of my replies in advance. Whenever I have free time I just sit and think up questions and then type the answers down into a text file. When someone asks a question I'm already prepared, just cut 'n paste and I'm done.

It always helps to have the answer before the question is asked.

originally stated: datektrader you don't count. i define actually typing speed as when you don't have to look at the keys. i should have added a 0 for people like you.
disregard this post as it is now irrelevant  --somebody already added a 0??

36 WPM for me at the moment, but I just picked up some PC typing software, so I hope to improve upon that score.

I can type 80 words per minute. But I have my own method of typing.

30-35 WPM on a good day. (And that's after two typing classes!) That's one reason I hang out here. It gives me something interesting to practice my typing on instead of quick foxes and lazy dogs. :D

80 wpm wow. ever have typing classes? I too had my own method of typing when I typed fast, but now I'm learning about some 'home row' b.s. which hinders me more than it helps.

I type extremely fast. I have never clocked it but it sure feels fast. When using instant messaging I usually get complaints because I can drop 4-5 lines of messages before the other person finishes one.

I guess that can be annoying.

I also have my own roving style and I probably only use about 5-6 of my fingers regularly.

Sometimes though I slow down considerably when I run into a bad typo day. It seems almost anything I type is wrong.

As I have said in another post, you become a fast typer when you spend 15-18 hours a day typing on the computer.

If I had to guess I would say I type 2-3 terabytes per minute.
