XP 2200+ Thoroughbred processors are starting to appear for sale.

Also some interesting news about Athlon MP processors and the use of XP thoroughbreds in dual boards:-

Quote:
AMD will introduce an MP 2100+ we learn at the end of June, but the chip firm is ensuring that new higher speed XPs are "MP locked", so they won't work in dual boards.

Further, we understand, the high speed MPs AMD will introduce will support "much higher" front side bus and memory speeds and the multipliers won't be locked.

I thought Thoroughbreds weren't supposed to start appearing until June 10th. You sure that's not really a Palomino?

Thoroughbred based processors are expected to come out on June 10, 2002. This way, the already selling Athlon XP 2200+ is nevertheless based on Palomino core, although there used to circulate some rumors about AMD’s inability to develop an Athlon XP based on the old core but working at 1.8GHz.

Unless they're making a mistake:

Or AMD decided to release an XP at 2200+ using the older core.

Or it could even be a modified XP chip

Well, now I am confused. :o

I've seen no announcements from AMD or anybody else regarding the release of the Athlon XP2200+ Palomino. My understanding was that the XP 2100+ was to be the end of the line for Palomino processors and that the Thoroughbred processors would be introduced, starting at 2200+, sometime in June.

My assumption was that the advertised processors were in fact Thoroughbreds and that AMD had decided to release them a little earlier than planned, possibly due to pressure being applied by the release of 533MHz bus processors from Intel.

I may be wrong of course but if this is indeed a Palomino it was certainly unexpected and is an interesting development. It seems like a "stop gap" measure to me so I'm wondering now if there is some problem or hold up with the Thoroughbreds?

AMD Athlon XP 2200+ is expected to be released in Q2. This will be the last Athlon XP CPU released on the 0.18 micron Palomino core, before the move to the 0.13micron Thoroughbred.

Yeah that's the Palomino.
