New Tattoo Advice
Moderator: The Mod Squad
Well after being on both sides of the needle (about 9 years of tattooing), always think of a black outline, or deep shading to highlight the light colours... There are very few tattoos that look good in a few years which don't have a strong outline... Where you have it is important as well as is what you have(avoid face, hands and neck...)..... Think big and work your way down, small may be dainty at first, but over the years can blob out... Avoid names and symbols that can cause offence... I lost count of the numbers of right wing symbols I have covered as well as girlfriend/boyfriend names....
Remember it is your choice, you have to live with it... I have no regrets about any of mine (full sleeves, back, legs etc)... My choice, not any one else's....

I too have several tats in various spots and I don't regret any of them. I do have some regrets about where I put a couple of them - but no regrets about the tats themselves.
So choose wisely - like several have already said - they're most likely going to be there forever so make sure you get something you can live with and make sure you put it WHERE you can live with it too
One piece of advice I always give to people is put them in a place that's not difficult to hide if the situation arises. There are times you don't want someone to know you have tats - so being able to cover them up easily is a good thing

The first one is a chinese "symbol" of "peace".colinJohn wrote:hmmm - have you got a reliable translation? You could be offering your firstborn to a cantonese temple.........

The use of the word "symbol" does worry me though. I mean would it have another actual translation?

Be very careful using non english scripts, esp asian based ones, they can have several meanings (aka the lady who though she had 'peace' or some meaning tattooed in chinese script on her arm... Eating in a resteraunt and the waiter (chinese) translated it as 'kung-fu fighter')....
