They are capped at the office but my friend somehow hacked in to the network and changed the file at their end. He knew what he was doing; and I would explain it better but I'm not sure what he did. All I know is that is soooooo fast now.

Also had to change a setting on the modem to make it work better...console ports are so much fun...

DSL is 1.2 Meg download, upload can be from 600k to 900k depending on the time of day.

if they're not full of it about band width, canadian dsl blows away usa dsl!!!

i've got dsl that they state is 1.5meg download, and 128kbps upload- i've tested it at cnet, and 260k download is more like it- perhaps this relates to speed of equiptment as well, because i've actually seen it tested at over 1mbps- they got me bending over for $29.99 + $10 for isp=$40/mo!!!

phone co's are so full of it about earnings- they must be cooking the books to look far worse, and are loosing some of this money somehow- channeling it out somehow. on the one hand they charge so much, and add in all the fees, and on the other hand, it's like they are all near bankruptcy, w/ the insiders getting freakin rich w/ their salaries, and options?!?!?!?!?!?   [think i'll go to cnet to test it right now- any better, more accurate site for measuring bandwidth?]

I think they promose 300k upload, but I have seen it go higher especially if your closer to the office. I've been able to do 700K upload with a good DSL modem...

i've got a cisco 677 router/ modem, and i'm actually going through a linksys usb converter- perhaps i could have a different modem, w/o going through usb (usb v1.1 good for up to 12mbps?!?).? my provider is frontier, and was bought out by global crossing (which went belly up), now citizens communication bought them. when global crossing pulled out, they must have stripped some of the equiptment out, because service really got bad- they've worked it out, and it's been smooth ever since. compared to dial up, this is good, but compared to others, this is a little bit on the mediocre side- i was at another site that had me over 400kbps, so it seems to vary.

this is the site i used to test my speed

I had used DSL in my area with Southwestern Bell for about a year, till I moved to another part of town...and they had told me it was available in my new area. After I moved, low & behold, it's not in my area and I'm stuck with 56k at home. :(

But I can use the T1 at work, which I do alot of my surfing from. And 56k sucks after using DSL/Cable modem....o yeah, cable modem not in my part of town either. What a bummer.
