Optical illusions take many forms. Some blend two or more images into one, our minds sort out those images.. and see the separate ones. Other optical illusions rely on a sort of "burn-in" residual image to our eye's light receptors, which inverts the first image.
Not unlike being outdoors in bright sunlight, then entering a dark room. It takes a few seconds for the eye's sensors to adjust. We are all too familiar with the "flash" effect from cameras leaving a shadow of brightness in our vision!
Ah, what tricks the mind plays when seeing things!

This illusion really DOES NOT have any black dots! The eye is fooled into seeing them due to conflicting geometry.

I don't see any black dots in the first picture.....only white
