What is involved in replacing a BIOS chip?

Postby jackdav » Thu Apr 28, 2005 8:56 pm

I am pretty sure I fried one while trying to flash via the internet.
Are they soldered in? Within a broad range, what might I expect to pay for one for a MSI KT8 Neo? Where might I want to start looking? MSI, I spose. Anywhere else?

TIA,

JD

Depends on how they built it. The chip on my board is replaceable. The chip on a bud's Intel board is soldered on. Just check it.

If its soldered, I'd bet it won't work. You'd need some machinery like the guy in the link above uses. He fixes for $50.

You're in luck, you have a socketed Bios on that board. I had one repaired here

http://www.flashbios.org/

It cost me less than $10, but its in The Netherlands. There are however plenty of other companies that will repair or replace Bios chips such as

http://www.badflash.com/

They charge $24.99 for repair and are based in the U.S

You got MSI to replace a chip from an Asus board for free? You must have a great phone voice!
