I just got a new mother ASUS M3N78-VM.
I have two optical devices and 2 HD's. One of which is SATA.

OK
Sata and other HD hooked up fine. When I go to plug in the 39 pin cable to the motherboard fro the opticals, it's too big. The socket is a 33.
Is there an adapter or something or is this going to really suck?

Brian

You only have one PATA connector on that board, for two IDE devices. That second smaller jack is for a floppy drive, not an optical or HDD drive. You're either going to have to lose an optical drive, or replace your PATA HDD with a new SATA. You could buy an IDE PCI card that will support four PATA drives, but depending on the age of your drives, it'd be better to buy a new one rather than a PCI card you won't be using once the old drive dies.

Keee-rap.
OK
So I have the one SATA drive that will work, I then have a choice of one optical drive or my other IDE HD? Man, that blows. Think I will get the card so I will be able to access the old drive, get the stuff off of it and get rid of it.

Does that sound reasonable if I want the info on the HD?

Thanks

What I'd do is leave one ODD out for now, unless you have a specific need for two (honestly, if you've got a CD burner, and a seperate DVD ROM, put out the $30 or so for a DVD burner). Put your SATA drive in as the boot drive, your IDE drive in as slave, copy the info you want to the SATA drive, then remove the IDE drive and plug in your second burner. I wouldn't spend money on an add-in IDE card just to use it once.
