Installing graphics card and SSD on new Motherboard

Post by anaphylacticman »

Hi.

First build using M.2 SSDs rather than SATA, and have a question that I cannot seem to find an answer to. Hoping this community can help, as always.

I have GIGABYTE Z590 AORUS ELITE AX motherboard, on which I intend to install one RTX 3060 graphics card (because I was finally able to get my hands on a card) and two 970 Evo Plus NVMe PCIe M.2 SSDs, one with 500MB and another with 2TB (the 500MB SSD is for the OS and most general files, with the 2TB SSD for gaming).

The motherboard has three M.2 connectors (one PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 to the CPU and two PCIe 3.0 X4 M.2 to the chipset).

The diagram shows that PCI Express x16 slot shares a Bus with the 4.0 x4 M.2 slot. The graphics card would go in PCI Express x16 slot (I presume). Would I have any performance issues installing the 500MB SSD in this M.2 slot? Or should I install both SSDs in the two PCIe 3.0 X4 M.2 slots? (or is it better to be on the same Bus and I should install my 2TB SSD next to the GPU?)

Here is the full setup (I guess I should change my signature):

Case: Cooler Master HAF 932
P/S: Corsair HX 850
Mobo: GIGABYTE Z590 AORUS ELITE AX
P: Intel i9-11900k Rocket Lake
M: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 RAM32/3200/16
V/C: EVGA RTX 3060 XC
SSD: 2 x 970 Evo Plus NVMe PCIe M.2 (500MB/2TB)

Thank you very much.
Case: Thermaltake Xaser III

M: 2 x Corsair XMS DDRAM512 PC32
P: Intel P4 2.66GHz 533M
V/c: ATI Radeon X1950Pro (256 MB)
OS: Microsoft XP Pro
