I have an old but little used PC (AMD 6000+) that I updated about a year ago by installing Windows 7. Ran it for a day or so to check out any problems but everything worked fine. Put it to one side for future use and a couple of weeks ago found a use for it. Unfortunately it kept overheating and I discovered that the CPU fan wasn't spinning, changed it for another one but that didn't work either. Dug out an old 3 pin fan, no joy, tried it on the other 2 three fan pins chassis and aux I believe but fans showed no sign of life. Anything I can do or is the motherboard toast?

Re: Fan header failure
Obvious, but are the BIOS settings correct, sometimes you can turn the fans off. Also have you run it with a fan header to molex connector to make sure the board is ok?

Re: Fan header failure
I will check in the Bios to see what's what. Pretty sure that I haven't changed anything as the board booted up with the correct time and date even though it had been stored for about 5 years! Board boots up fine and runs for 15 minutes or so before it shuts itself down.

Re: Fan header failure
That or rigging one directly from the PSU outputs. Not sure if they still sell those. It must be possible to shut the RPM detection off completely so the board will not panic into thermal shutdown that isn't there in the first place...
