So I recently acquired an older Gaming Laptop from my Brother -in-Law. The Asus G75V. I got it running and started getting updates on it only for the hard drive to completely fail. So I ordered a2 new drives and passed everything over to my friend who works on computers. He is now saying the Motherboard is locked down as if it were stolen. I did set up a BIOS password on it but that password I know and can unlock it. Is there really an issue? It is preventing him from putting a new ISO on to the laptop, for some reason. I am not a complete wiz when it comes to computers so if there is any other follow up questions I can answer them as best as I can! He did say he tried to remove the CMOS battery and that didnt fix it

Likely the 'trip switch' for intrusion detection has been hit. A lot of motherboards have this. Resetting the switch is easy enough, but follow what the user manual shows. There may or may not be an on-screen message.

And check the CMOS battery, if low it can revert system settings to default. Any bare metal spot on the chassis is negative, the cap of the CR2032 is positive. Do so with no mains power entering the PSU for 5 minutes.
Then too.. check over all capacitors for bulging tops or signs of leakage. That 'bad caps' syndrome is still with us.

I think what your friend means is that he cannot activate windows due to the hardware being 'registered' to your brothers M$ account if Windows 10 has been installed.
