Hello community.

I am new to this website and am seeking some advice.
A months ago I have created Microsoft Project document. I could open it at the beginning, but now I am struggling with this error message: 'Project cannot open the type of file'.
Do you have any suggestions how to work around it? Any suggestions ideas would be great.

MS Office 2016
Windows 10
Lenovo 15.6" E570 ThinkPad i7

Sounds like at some point in time you saved the file in a different format. Do you still have a backup somewhere?

If you still have the original program that crated the file, use that to possibly open the file. Windows has changed programming toward newer formats, and ignores older formats.. such as "Wordpad" or "MS Word" files with the tagname *.wrd or *.doc".
If you do have the file intact but cannot open it, use a file editor to read the first few data lines of the file. Should be some characters in the first 20 spaces, indicating a file name and format style. Sounds complicated, but is easy.
One program that is better than MS Office® is "Open Office" from http://www.openoffice.us.com/ It can open and work older document forms. Has less overhead and doesn't hog as much memory as other programs.
