Drag & Drop Feature

Postby c327 » Sun Dec 24, 2017 8:48 am

Having used Windows 10 Pro now for a while I can't say anything good about it, zero.

Always used Drag & Drop in previous Widows operating systems a very useful feature, but it seems that feature is no longer available in Windows 10. I read where you can disable UAC in the registry but it seems doing that creates other issues so I won't go there. It seems that the only other way to move a file from one folder to another is via cut and paste which is a pain in the butt if you have a lot of files to move.

Is there any other way to drag and drop files or folder in W10 ?

Thanks & Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to you also.
A lot has changed in Win 10, some features lost from previous versions. But the default use of the right-click on a file or folder, then drag to another location, should give the choice of 'move' or 'copy'.

There is no option to MOVE. Just CUT & COPY

You can COPY and PASTE like all other Windows. I still use Teracopy to copy files as it doesn't stop completely with no warning if there is an issue copying files (such as a duplicate file). I have also selected all files and just moved them over to other drives with no issue.

Merry Christmas.

It all depends on where you want to drop things and what security is set on the target folder. W10 is a lot more strict by default so maybe all you need to do is adjust the security settings on the target folder and there ya go.

I still prefer Total Commander from http://www.ghisler.com/ which is superior to the resident 'file manger' in most OS versions. Also a file editor, creator, file/folder mover and packer. Works seamlessly within Windows. Can rescue a lot of older files for use, and view hidden/system files.
Any duplicate files going to a place, TC will warn you and display stats for comparison.. copy over, skip, rename or delete.
