imac late '06 Yosemite 4g RAM 500g hdd.

All files were in folders on the desktop @ 25 gigs of my kids pics, movies, legal docs etc. were put in the recycle bin and the recycle bin has been emptied.
Good news is less than a gig has been written over by my estimation. O/S is in tact and boots fine.

I never made a backup. My kid thought it would run a game faster. Even though with those files there was %80 free space.

What recovery software should I buy?

See if the AppleĀ®site has the original driver set for that system. Also, check other sites for possibility of restoring.
With the original system driver and OS disk, all may likely be restored to as having left the factory.

O/S works perfectly. I want to recover the files that were deleted out of the trash.
Hello friend, long time.

If you have Time Machine installed, the files may have been backed up between your last edit (if any were recent) and deleting them. Launch Time Machine and use the Spotlight field to find the deleted files and then restore the items.

I would stop using the mac if you want to recover - the more you use it the more gets overwritten and that means a lot more difficult to recover.. I religously on all my macs backup with time machine to a USB or firewire drive (I know a bit late now, but something for the future - was very handy in an upgrade from a laptop hard drive to a SSD).. I use EaseUS for some of my hard drive needs - it comes with a pay recovery which should work.. There are no free tools, the free ones limit the amount you can recover!

 Should have read more 'between the lines'. 'Recycle bin" emptied!
Mr T is correct, try to recover deleted files as soon as possible, otherwise written over by the OS.
If held in the Recycle Bin they still are recoverable. But once emptied, an erasure mark replaces the first character of each file, denoting it as unused space.
