Upgraded motherboard and CPU, no post or outputt

Postby bransonm » Mon Oct 10, 2016 10:41 pm

I have upgraded my motherboard on my PC to a MSI Gaming Z170A M7 and CPU to an intel i7 6700K and there is no output on boot. Any solutions to fix this issue or is my MOBO dead?

Hi welcome to the motherboards.org....

If your upgrade doesn't start straight off, there is loads you can do before declaring a DOA mainboard...

First off, I would:
1) Take the motherboard out of the case and put it on the motherboard box.
2) With the CPU fitted and the fan connected to the correct fan slot, only use one stick of RAM and put iy in the slot nearest the CPU or furthest from the CPU
3) Add the video card next.
4) Add a keyboard and mouse
5) remove the power supply from the case and attach it to the motherboard most boards now have to use a 24 pin connector and the 8 pin aux connector
6) if the graphics card requires a power supply to it attach the correct connector to the video card (most gaming cards do) and attach the video card to monitor
7) Attach mains power to the power supply
8 ) Get a small flat headed screwdriver and look for the two pins for the power switch. Carefully short the power pins with the screwdriver and hopefully all should work and you will get a motherboard splash screen or BIOS on screen...

Post back what happens....
