Our Agilent VNA E5071C is dead. It was diagnosed by an ex HP technician that its motherboard and its receiver board are both dead, and for the receiver board we need to replace a dead SMT chip "Agilent 1GM1-4233".

Our HP technician doesn't want to take the risk purchasing this chip from an uncertain source online. He wants to find its data sheet first and possibly its original manufacturing part number (instead of this Agilent's part number 1GM1-4233). However, he hasn't been able to find its data sheet. Does anyone here know some tricks finding data sheets for special chips?

Proper parsing of the characters is the quest key. A browser or search engine will likely show suggestions and other fields, if it cannot find the exact match.
Did find several, in searching for "Agilent 1GM1-4233". One is for http://www.icigbtdatasheet.com/. Data sheet and part offering. Best to work with reputable and known sites.
The chipset should have a logo, OEM part number and manufacture date on it. Rarely would have a seller's logo or part number.

I did search in http://www.icigbtdatasheet.com/ , but I only found a price quote, not its data sheet. ("No Results for 1GM1-4233. Please amend your search terms.")

1GM1-4233 looks like this: https://www.taobao.com/product/1gm1-4233.htm
Only "Agilent 1GM1-4233" and some "Si number" (yymmdd?) are printed on it. I don't think it is OEM part number, is it?

Went on another search, nothing noted. That link to datasheet.com for the PDF specs page was only for the unit's operation/use specs.. not the IC itself. Other searches did not list the part number.
Possibly it is a re-branded chip, with a painted on label, or it may be out of favor due to a newer design.
Common practice is that the first characters are the logo or brand, the second line for the part number, the third for date.
If the IC were molded to shape, it should be a charcoal color, with etched info on it. But if a sub-assembly of chips in a shell, maybe the lighter color. Separate chips in a shell likely are 'potted' in epoxy.
Should be someone, somewhere, that can light the path to finding this chipset.

I would ask at http://www.keysight.com
It looks like they have the datasheet in there that may help translate this agilent number to a TC**** number that might have a better availability. Note, this is pretty specialist hardware we are dealing with, not somehting built from off-the-shelf components.

Thank you, evasive. The Parts ID Team of Keysight/Agilent told me that Agilent 1GM1-4233 is the MPN (Agilent *is* the manufacturer), and it is retail restricted. Therefore, no data sheet can be released, nor can the chip be sold alone. The only solution is to buy the whole receiver board (5,384 USD).
