990 FXA gd80 v2 motherboard D6 error

Postby deershoot3r » Mon Dec 29, 2014 4:33 pm

Ive done my research and the d6 error means the motherboard cant find a video output source. I have a Radeon 7870 GPU in the PCI e2 slot. When its in that slot it comes up d6 error.

When i move it to the PCI e4 slot, it comes up with d6 error.

When i move it to the PCI e5 slot, it works perfectly.

BUT! if i take my old nvidia 9500 GT, that doesnt need power connectors from the psu, and plug it into the PCI e2 slot, it works perfectly. Why wont my 7870 work in the PCI e2 slot, but the 9500 GT will?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Welcome to Motherboards.org.
That 7870 video card has two 6-pin power sockets. Both must be connected to PSU leads. If you do not have extra PCI-E power leads, then there are adapters that can use the standard Molex power leads. Power draw may be around 200 watts.
The video card slot cannot provide enough power for operation. Board traces may melt, and slot contacts could too.

Thank you for your reply, but i do have both of those power sockets plugged in, the power supply and graphics card both worked in my old motherboard, and they work in the 3rd PCIe slot, but not the first 2 slots.

Specs link for the nvidia 9500 GT.. http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop ... ifications
Specs link for the Radeon 7870.. http://www.anandtech.com/show/5691/the- ... pcs-hd7870
You are working with two different video systems.. one Nvidia, one AMD. Drivers for each might be installed and be compatible, but not easy. Best is to have two identical cards.
Unless the need is for extended graphics use (multiple monitors), then use the better card as the primary and only video source.
Ensure that only the drivers for that specific video system are active. Some Beta drivers are not as stable as previous Alpha drivers.

I am only using the 7870 as a primary, when it didn't work I simply tried my old 9500 just to test to see of it would boot, I'm not going to use the 9500. The drivers installed are for the 7870. Like I said before it works but not in the first 2 PCIE slots. I'm using the recommended drivers also. Not alpha or beta drivers

Ah! Just a test, not trying to mate different products.
If the only PCI-E video card, then it should be mounted in the #1 or primary PCI-E video slot.
The motherboard manual should note this. If that slot is not active, then there may be a fault with the motherboard.
The slot contacts may have some contamination on them. Safest way to clean them is to wrap a credit card with one layer of a soft, thin cloth.. and use some alcohol.. damp, not wet.. then insert and remove the cleaning device a few times.
DO NOT slide it!!
Did note a few links concerning that "D6 error".. possible the CPU may have lost a contact in its socket. Might be worth taking the CPU out, clean the socket and its contacts very gently, as with the PCI-E slot.. and reinstall.

What CPU do you have in there?
When was the last time you cleared the CMOS (setting everything to default)?
When did you change the CMOS battery for a brand new one?
We hate rut, but we fear change.
