Hi Folks! It's been some time since I have been to the forums.

I have something occurring that baffles me. My newest build is acting up. I don't recall all the parts but if you know the song "One piece at a time" you might have an idea of how I bought and put it together. It was purchased piece by piece over about 18 months to two years... That in itself seems to have led to some unique issues. Here's a spec breakdown:

Intel mobo, with a 3.2 GHz Pentium D processor.
4 GB of RAM
1 TB SATA Seagate HD
XFX PCI Express video, NVIDIA 240 I think? Recently bought and upgraded to this hoping it might solve some of my issues.
Running Vista Home Premium, SP2 I think, if that's the newest patch level out.

If I leave my machine on for more than a day I see my display go to black and white. It boots up or wakes up and looks ok, then when the desktop is loaded and I get to where the gadget panel opens it changes to black and white. It's as if I had it set that way. Seems to result after an update has installed. Symptoms are just that, plus I have gotten errors when I tried to install the most recent NVIDIA drivers, and had some issues with the monitor drivers.

The only solution I have is to roll back and it works like a charm every time. This has been going on for probably a month now.

I am thinking it has some issues with the Vista install, but it's just a very odd thing to be going on. Any ideas? Any pointers on where to look?

Thanks in advance for any help or ideas you might be able to provide!

Usually a graphics card driver issue.... Update your chipset drivers (intel chipset, get them from the Intel website).. Then update the video card drivers (get them from the nvidia website, not the card manufacturers) and see how it goes.. I experienced a similar thing on an old rig that was folding@home... Turned out it was the ATI drivers disliking the chipset drivers, coupled with a weak PSU....

Hey Mr. T! Glad to see you are still around.

I didn't even consider the updating of drivers I guess because at one point everything worked great. Totally different story now, though. I have updated the chipset drivers as well as a few other current drivers for things that could have been improved with positive results. I'm not sure of it being the total solution yet as I will have to leave it going for a few days and see if the black and white issue comes back. I was having problems with video, though, choppy, sluggish, unable to open in full screen because video would stall. That seems better now.

Thanks for the ideas! I will post if anything further comes up.
