question on Dell's upgrade capabilities

Postby detheren » Thu Nov 14, 2002 4:04 pm

i have a Dell dimension L1000R i havent popped the case recently but the last time i did i wanted to upgrade the ram. I put in two 256meg Dimm chips and when it restarted the system only said that i had 128 all together. I reloaded defaults in the CMOS and have checked it over to find out if there is anything in it that might recount the RAM or have it refresh each time it loads. even went as far as to remove the CMOS battery for a period of time in order for it to reset and still nothing. Did i mention that i even flash upgraded the BIOS.

the motherboard is some generic peice of chit, as i have been unable to locate any manufacturer name, so as to find out what the maximum ammount of ram the board will accept is. I have found out that the chipset is labelled
810

If anyone wants to stab at this please fell free.

Check Dell's site for your model # and you can see what the max amount of RAM is. Dell computers arent really meant to upgrade.
