html help

Postby Ghen » Tue Oct 11, 2005 3:20 pm

My host has a quirky method of disallowing access to file lists in folders with no index.html file.. Instead of showing Index of .... it loads a generic comcast.net page saying this user hasn't moved in yet.

I want an index file that just shows what is in the folder without having to actually write an html file and linking everything. In a perfect world it would also update itself every time I upload a new file to the folder. The thing is, I really have no idea how to do this without it being the tedious process of copy/pasting every name into a html file.

ok, you will hate me for this, but could I suggest php? It would be a lot easier I think.

That, or a redirect to the list of files, no, that wouldn't work...

Check to see if your host allows the use of .htaccess files.... If so let us know and we can get you set up with a file to allow what you want...
