I am writing a program to compress data and it would be nice if there was a function to perform file I/O operations not by bytes but by bits. Is there any function?
Thanks.

Pkzip does the data compression bit by bit to consolidate the 0s. With machine language programs, compression is only 10%. All programs use native machine language, so bit by bit compression is a thing of the past. You have to study more modern data compression mothods to keep up to date. HDD use PRML, and graphics has 900% compression.

Bit by bit you have to take them from the dram in bit streams.
