Tell me, how can I do WinXP skinning in my C++ application? What base techniques are used in programs like WindowBlinds to change the appearance of every Windows control? Is it hooking or subclassing or superclassing or something I don't know about? Give me some useful links where I can get sources for something like this.

In Windows, in general. The 'skinning' is done via ALIAS commands. These are references to pre-written library functions that chage the appearance of a particular object.

In a 'skins' case the effect is similar. You start with a pre-developed body type, and you layout an appearance for it.

The appearance can be changed. The body cannot. And typically the body allows/supports 'see thru' or 'invisible' modes.

This is to accomodate for the 'skin' being visible and the body to remain hidden...
