X box hard wire to wireless net?

Postby jeff kushner » Mon Nov 29, 2004 7:22 am

Hi Folks,

I bought a LinkSys Wireless-G Broadband router (WRT54G) and a couple of wireless usb adapters to setup a network for the two computers that I have at home. My son is dying to get xbox live. Questions that I have is- Can I connect his xbox via hardwire connection to my router instead of busting out the $100. for the wireless game adapter?

The router has four ethernet connecting points on the back of it along with the one for the cable modem. I'm thinking that I can connect 4 total computer regardless if they are hardwired or wireless. Am I correct or confused<s>?

Yes, a hardwired connection is the best way to go actually.

Dont get the wireless adapter unless you really have to. You should only need it if the XBOX is too far from the router.

Generally, the total distance between a Router, Hub, or Cable Modem and the receiver (in this case- XBOX) is limited to around 330 feet before running into problems so you are fine. 8)
