I just purchased one of these:

btw, is this a good enough router? I also have software firewalls on both PC's, but is the router secure enough as well?

I've also bought some cat5e cable. So I connect the broadband modem into the router with some cat5e, then from the router I run two more lengths of cat5e cable to both PC's.

I just want to check that I've got everything right. Thanks.

Sure, that should work for you as long as both machines have NICs inside them. Maybe as a better alternative, purchase a router with built in firewall. That way, you can eliminate the software on both machines, making it more efficient and less painful when sharing resources between the two PCs.

That router has a built in firewall(have one myself) and I use McAfee Personal Firewall along with it. No conflicts, no problems.
I have a photographic memory, only problem is, I ran out of film.
