Router network lag

what i mean with spiking is this:

you're playing and doing fine at your 40(or whatever) ping then it jumps to 300+ for a second or two and then returns to normal.

by continual lag i mean this:
if you have only your computer on the router you are getting 40(or whatever) ping, but when you connect any computers your ping is constantly at a 'bad' level.

spiking typically means a bottleneck someplace, and more often it's the connection.

what kind of bandwidth are you using up/down?
and importantly, what kind of game(specifically) are you playing?
