accesing internet with pc via broadband card in laptop

Postby cultivatedlove » Mon Apr 12, 2010 5:02 pm

I was wondering if it was possible to access the internet with my desktop via the broadband card in my laptop.

I am running 7 in the new desktop and will not have a connection for a couple of days. I have a laptop with vista and a mobile broad band card. Is it possible to connect the two with Ethernet or would I need a router.
Once connected will I be able to access the internet on both the desktop and the laptop.
My networking experience is pretty minimal.
I would greatly appreciate a point in the right direction or some help.

You can do ICS (internet connection sharing) between the two machines.

Check with your mobile broadband provider. The majority do NOT allow "tethering", or using your wireless modem as a shared access point for more than one machine, unless you're specifically paying for that service. For example, I have mobile broadband on my phone, unlimited data, but I'm not allowed to use that connection to run my home computer, or use it as a hotspot for other wireless devices like a laptop. I have to have a seperate plan to do that, with a 5GB per month cap, at an extra charge. Before you do anything, check with them to see if that's even allowed.
