IP ADDRESS INTERNET CONNECTION ISSUE

Postby joeyscales » Mon Feb 18, 2008 1:11 pm

I have a 2 computers a laptop and desktop.
The laptob is connect via a wireless connection through a router and the desktop throught the same router but connected via eithernet cable. I have a cable connection.

The desktop doesn't connect but the wireless connection to the internet does.

The internet provider had me check ipconfig and they said the ip address is wrong.

we also tried ipconfig/renew and I get an error.

How can I change the IP to the right IP address?

What is your router make and model?

Do you have a static IP address? Are you sure your service provider said IP address and NOT MAC address...

Charter communications broadband cable

Linksys wireless router

Static IP address

Every thing was working fine. Both the Laptop and Desktop were connected via wireless connection with the Linksys.

Then I had a motherboard go bad and I had to replace it. Now the desktop(with replaced motherboard) can't connect.

The icon in the system tray says -
-
Status Connected-
--signal strength good=
==speed 11Mbps

Limited or no conductivity

It might have nothing to do with the IP address that is just the direction the so called Tech Support people went down at the cable company.

post me the ipconfig /all readout of the laptop. We need to find out if the router is still dishing out IP-addresses or not. If not, you need to set the IP-address of the desktop by hand.
We hate rut, but we fear change.

Wow, Nobody has an answer? I still haven't been able to connect via my 2nd computer. Ipconfig on the Desktop does not list "up.charter.net" but the laptop does. Maybe that info helps.
