ok got back from work and here are the results . first a little info . the core is palomino according to aida . i have the fsb set to 200 thus making it 1150mhz speed . i can set it to 266 fsb upping it to 1800 but for the time being i will leave it at 200 fsb 1150mhz speed . mbm 5 and pc alert used both giving the same results . installed folding v4 graphical at 100% cpu cycles
room temp 21.5c
cpu 47c
case 34c
i then moved it to a cooler room getting these results
room temp 17.5-18c
cpu 42c
case 29c
this cooler room has aircon whcich i wont be able to use in actual fact . only using it as a test .
so what should i do . connect 1 front case fan putting air in
connect an exhaust fan expelling hot air out
has to be a 50mm one
and connect a better cpu fan

47 is fine. but if you really want too. you should have 1 in and 1 out. but judging by your temps there it is breathing fine. so lowering it further would be better HSF (heatsink and fan). but for that temp folding, i think you are doing alright.
Folding folding folding keep them procs a folding.......

47 degrees is fine, but the processor will certainly get a good deal hotter when you run it at 266MHz FSB.
I would recommend putting in an exhaust fan in the back of the computer, and if that doesn't cool enough, put in either another exhaust fan in the back or an intake fan in the front.

Do all of the above. Although 47c is fine if you go ahead with 1 inlet fan, 1 outlet fan, and a better CPU fan, you will have no problem winding up the FSB to 266.J.C.GARCIA wrote:

ok i did the following as an experiment .
i installed a power supply fan on the front bottom of the case . no effect whatsoever .
i then installed a 50mm cpu fan on the back of the case and i upped the fsb from 200 to 266 . i had a cpu speed increase from 1150 to 1800 ( 1533 ) mhz . the following are the temps
room temp 23.5-24c
cpu temp 53
case temp 35
i will be buying a proper case fan either today or tomm ( i'm on night shift
) . i do expect the temps to go up even firther as the day progresses , but i've left it running anyway .
materials i.e. cpu fans and heatsinks , are difficult to come buy either over here or in the neigbouring towns so i have to try to adapt with what i have .
are these temp still high for an athlon
advice needed
p.s. i will be posting a wanted article on the junk drawer in search of these materials
another p.s. i am running a 697 wu and it is doing exactly 7 min a frame for this 400 framer . the funny thing is that on my pc , see sig , it does the same wu at 7.5 minutes a frame

Those temperatures are pretty high, but probably safe. It's best for the temperature to not exceed 55 degrees C.
BTW, I'm surprised that the Athlon is outperforming the P4 by that much, but Athlons are more efficient (more work per clock cycle) than P4s.
