Let's Welcome Thomas Bowman

Postby miki02131 » Thu Nov 20, 2003 1:56 am

Thomas Bowman just PMed me and informed that he has finally joined the folding team. Let's welcome him and offer him our best support. He has one question that I would like to take the opportunity to put on the forum and see if we can get a solution to his issue:

OK, I did it - my AMD K6-500 system's been chewing on a '400' for a week now (and has completed 75/400) - to get it to my P4 system (Below), do I simply halt it, copy the subdirectory (Jumpdrive or Flash) to the P4 box - and select 'Stop when completed' - then copy it back to the K6-500 when done - and let it go get another ?

The K6-500 is connected to the internet, the P4 is not (and will not be, since I use it for Digital Editing and CAD - it has no need to be on the internet (and everyone would like to use it if I move it from the dark depths of my office - yes, I don't want to share it for at least several months yet - I've got XP tied down to avoid running any unneeded services as well).

The K6-500 has only 144 Kb of memory, to compliment it's ATA66 19Gb HD, so is taking quite awhile to get much done...

Is there an easy way to do this running of the problems on another PC that is not on the WEB ? Is there a Forum that discusses this ?

Thank you.

I suggested that he keep the folding computer where it is currently and just network it with his main gateway. This way he would only connect to transfer or download WUs.

Once again welcome Thomas and we appreciate you're being on board.

Thanks.

Pete the Farmer is Pette Broad. Maybe I shouldn't call him that, but he has a huge # of machines to start folding with.
