the advmethods increases your chances of getting grommacks - you still will get tinkers. As to the difference, Tinkers are designed in a frame format, usually about 400, while grommacks are written to tuilise the cpu's special features to speed up calcualtions, and consist of steps.

Just noticed that a hyperthreaded machine running 2 clients counts as 2 processors on the F@H stats and user page :(

why yes it does. Why is that a bad thing? You could run 4 clients, get work units done ar 1/4 the speed, but have 4 cpus...

each instance running hasn it's own specific id#, which shows as a "processor", but doesn't always have to be a actual processor.

btw, how's the hyperthreaded performance?

Actually, you don't need the -advmethods flag to "test" gromacs. Gromacs has been released to the general public and you'll be getting a mixture of WUs, right along with everybody else.

Adding the -advmethods flag does give you a preference for the potentially unstable WUs so you'll get a higher percentage of these types of problems. (You'll generally get a higher percentage of Gromacs WUs, too.) It's actually the WU that you're testing, not the fundamental code in the core. Different WUs can have decidedly different results, depending on the characteristics of the particular protein.

oh. well - that would explain why a lot of the work units you recieve using advmethods will reset if folding crashes...

the wu's dont reset . it will send them with whatever work has been done on them . but i'm also sure that i'm not the only one in the team using the advmethods command . out of the two pc's which are the same , read sig , the one with the advmethods command does this .

really? no wonder my point counter was rising... so essentially when you "lose your work", it just sends whatever it's got and starts again...
