U been away or something Aussie? Im not only experimenting with them but im selling them now as well I've been posting praise all over the place about them. But the 2 x 2500+ are my first personal ones....and I'm not that impressed with them...seem a bit buggy but I think that its my mobos....went on the cheap and got 2 matsonic MS8147C mobos..... comps occasionaly reboot or just freeze and seem to be running very slow...takes a few seconds for a window to open. could also be a buggy OS install....haven't had time to check em out. My kids are using them and they both want their intels back lol....

Aussie wrote:I'm ready for that challenge now so how about we hammer out the terms?

I've got a Barton running at 2200MHz and I'm prepared to give you a 50% CPU speed advantage @ 3.3GHz, one instance of the client running only and a 30 day time period for the challenge.

Further details such as how we co-ordinate the start time etc will have to be worked out.

Ready?

hmmm I will be using a 2.8c.......u say u got a barton running at 2200MHz but what is the original...is it a 2500+? because at 2200MHz thats a 3400+ so thats more than fair and just to be more fair I wont OC it. So 3400+ vurses 2.8c with Hyperthreading...ok sounds good. name the date and ur new user name.....I assume this will be 30 days at 24/7......30 days seems to be a bit long...I don't want this comp out of my general scoring for so long.....hehe trying to work my way up the ladder

Ugh! Any computer is only as good as the foundation it is built on, just because the CPU's are cheap doesn't mean that you can run them on cheap motherboards and still get good results. Get yourself an Epox or Abit nForce2 Ultra board for those Barton 2500's before you establish any firm opinion on the AMD platform's stabilty and speed.

u say u got a barton running at 2200MHz but what is the original...is it a 2500+? because at 2200MHz thats a 3400+

2200MHz on a 200MHz FSB is exactly the default speed for a 3200+ not a 3400+ which doesn't even exist yet.

So 3400+ vurses 2.8c with Hyperthreading....just to be more fair I wont OC it.

That would be a 3200+ verses a 2.8c with hyperthreading then and if you are prepared to go with that then so am I.

Now that we have a commitment to this challenge I'll give you a little insight here, I have been testing my Barton @ 2200MHz under the user name of Wally987. I started testing on Saturday 6th September at 4.20AM local time (2.20AM Perth time) and have been folding 24/7 since except for 8 1/2 hours downtime for configuration changes and/or testing another CPU on the bench. As I type this Wally987 has generated 1296 points and is 73% through another work unit. Average production has been 85 points per day so 30 days should give aprox 2500+ points, that is what you are up against.

Might I suggest Monday 22nd at midnight my time (10PM Perth time) as a starting time? That gives us nearly 24 hours for final prep.

I will use the name of Aussie_Challenge for my rig.

sounds good.

one last point, what do u set the client in configuration under client type with ur super succesful 2200MHz.... Folding@Home, No Preference, Genome@Home?......also what flags should we use?

Also what MOBO are u using for that machine (might get 2 for my 2500+s)

PS I will use the name, joshvee_challenge :D

oh.... afraid of losing work josh? the advmethods may be somewhat unstable, but worth more points.

yes they are unstable and thats why they shouldnt be used in a challenge because they introduce an unpredictable and uncontrolable factor into the challenge

"C:\Program Files\Folding@Home\FAH3.25-Console-beta.exe" -local -advmethods -forceasm

Copied and pasted from the shortcut properties.

No problem with advmethods here.

Preference is set for FAH.

The board I am using is an Abit NF7-S ver 2.0, I changed from my Epox 8RDA+ verson 1.1 because it had problems overclocking the Barton (no official support for 200MHz FSB) yet it would overclock my 1800+ up to 200FSB no worries.

Memory is generic DDR400 (Apacer), cooler is a thermaltake Volcano 10+, CPU is a Barton 2500+ AQXEA running at 2.2 gigglehurtz (11 x 200) @ 1.75 volts.

Good to go at midnight then.
