as to a good os, a small linux distro or a VERY stipped back model of win 95 will do.

OK. Havn't tried to use Linux before. Guess one of these systems can be a test bed. What are some of the differences between it and Dos/Win? Where can a find a copy of it? And how hard is it to configure on a machine that you might not be able to get drivers for? Anything else you can tell me or point me in the right direction it would help me.

I KNOW NOTHING about linux ... but I am learning

in the earlier posts in this thread we talked about running a linux distro from a CD ....

The issuses I see with this is isn't Linux kinda touchy about hardware??

40 different machines would probably cause some issue in hardware somewhere

if you could figure it out a CD which really did not look too closely at hardware ahem *** just enuff to run FAH *** and that would load up FAH in an autorun (with the MB team # of course :)
You could just drop them off at peoples desk and tell them to drop it in the CD tray at the end of day then hit the reset button as they walk out the door

I imagine I could prolly run over 900 machines in my building alone :D ... to bad I subcontract to the FEDS and that type of behavior would immetiately get me SHOT!!!!!! 8O

The nice thing about my building would be that almost all the machines are standardized (Dells) Network optimization and all ...

hmm - this is becoming somewhat confusing, however, aparently you can add modules into morphix, so maybe this could be one, and the lite model is just 122 mb.

No, we currently don't but wait a little bit on that one. First we establish the Folding Team, then use the momentum gained to spawn a SETI one.

ok just figured I would check. I think that most of us run S@H then F@H anyways and that will give us even more of a profile.

To Mobocop:
By reading some of the posts about this subject, is there anyway we can get a seprate forum for the Motherboard.org teams. That way we can keep track of any team info and questions on one page to say. Maybe start out with Folding@home then adding others like seti@home and such.
I see this as becoming a big subject in here and it would save us time then browsing thru other forums looking for info.

Does this sound good to everybody?

You mean a distrobuted Computing Forum? That Sound like it'll work well, albeit the official teams here are still growing. In time, we'll have Folding @ home, genome @ home, seti@home and d20l teams here, but let us grow first.
