My GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4 has a P8 header instead of a P4 header. My Power Supply only has a P4 connector and I have that plugged into the P8 header and my computer is working fine. I can boot up and enter windows, I just have a few questions thats been on the back of my mind. Should I get a P8 adapter and use that to plug into the P8? Would that give my computer better stability? Or am I just over thinking this?

Thanks.

The 8-pin connector is designed to carry the current required by the device safely, without causing melted connections or fried traces. Would be best if you got the adapter, and used it. The wires can safely carry about 12 amps, albeit they may get slightly warm. Same goes for the 24-pin ATX main power socket. If using only a 20-pin plug, you run the risk of melting solder connections or frying traces on the mobo.
