POINTS A COMING

Postby whiteboy » Wed Feb 27, 2008 1:52 pm

Been Playing around with some setups and I am now pushing 2135.45 PPD now on the Phenom (at the time I write this).

Went from 1 SMP folding at 27-29 hours and around 1700 PPD to
2 SMP's at 35-37 hours and around 1075 PPD each.

I'll upload a screen shot of F@HMON after awhile but it shows me pushing about 2900PPD on 4 computers right now.

hmmm going to have to watch running 2 SMP's. just had to do a restart and both of them deleted the old work uints and download two new ones. kind of sucks because both of them were over 70% done. oh well guess its part of the learning curve.

I'd probably question running 2 SMP's on the same machine like that, especially with the bug in the Phenom chips. :o

2 SMP clients on 1 machine is a really bad idea. SMP was designed specifically to be run as a single client and being able to spread itself evenly amongst all available cores. Hence the acronym Symmetric Multi-processing. And if (as wullger_etmc mentioned) these Phenom chips are at all wobbly, that just increases the chances of Folding failing.

Out of all the reviews and stuff I read about the chip, I havn't seen a problem yet. This system has been on 24 hours a day folding for about 10 days now and hasn't had a problem yet. As for the losing of the 2 WU's, I did read about it happening to several other people due to the client still being in beta. As for two at a time, yeah i admit it takes about 6-8 hours longer to complete but I've done 2 WU's in that time frame instead of one. Now I do admit that once I start to overclock this puppy I will go back to 1 at a time plus by then hopefully they'll have the latest GPU fix since beta 5 is a complete dud ( their words on their site). When I was using all 4 cores for one WU my time per frame was about 16 minutes. With me running 2 wu on 2 cores the time only jumped up to about 21 minutes a frame, and they still get done before the preferred deadline of 3 days and thats is still with both of them running and me playing Crysis about 3-4 hours a day. I'd say keep on pushing it while I can.

WOOHOO...new GPU console out and its WORKING!!!!!!!. now time to test how fast the gpu runs. and yes one of the SMP's will be shut down after the WU is finished, but if it still ones at a good speed I might just keep it running, just have to wait and see I guess.
