Each program may require the CD as "authenticity" proof that you have the ownership. Sure, it is a hassle to switch disks every time, but this is a form of anti-piracy at work. You could have a multiple optical drive setup, with each one having a separate program disk.. the disk is installed from that specific drive, and the program will always revert to it. May be costly, to set up such a "library" of progamming access. Bear with it. The "Blue Shift" edition from Half-Life requires it, but not the other 4 programs in the Platinum Editon. Doom3 requires the disk. So do many others.
