EAX sound problems with SOF2

Postby snakebite66 » Mon Feb 17, 2003 2:48 pm

Went for a new sound card and got a sounblaster 4.1 digital.

I went for the budget option in the end, hope I do not regret it!

When playing SOF2 and setting the sound to EAX, it wont set and will only use direct sound.

The card definitely supports this feature, can not figure out why the game will not except it?

I have gone into the control panel and fiddled with settings as well as device manager.

Running XP and speakers are Labtec 3 speaker system, eg subwoofer and 2 satelites.

Any ideas?

I would have to say the game doesn't support it.Find a newer game you
know supports it and see what happens. If you got a $110 you should
get an M-Audio 7.1 .You'll need a usb controller but you'll have every
sound format up to 192khz covered.

Thanks for the reply. The game seems to support EAX as it has the setting for it in the audio section in the control of the game.

The game actually throws out EAX and defaults to direct sound.

Maybe an issue with the game?

What is the exact name and model of your card...I know it's 4.1 ,but give
me the exact name as it reads off the box.Something is not right. It could
be drivers but that shouldnt affect EAX...Give me all the info for your card
and I will check it out for you.Something is not right.

Yes certainly

The very box says

'Creative EAX'

'Sounblaster 4.1 digital'

It supports S/PDIF output

and EAX, direct sound and direct sound 3D

I am using the latest drivers

Thats wierd.Do you have another game on hand that supports EAX?
If you do try it and see if the same thing happens. If you've got EAX
output selected for both card and game it should work.Maybe the card
isn't decoding it...You might want to contact Creative or at least get on
their site and do as much digging as you can. They might have a support
board where people post with similiar problems and issues.Just for the
hell of it,what are you using for a speaker setup? It might also be a simple
oversight in the software setup.
