I was wondering if anybody out there is playing Unreal II the Awakening. I just got and its pretty good. However I am running my system at 2.5 ghz with an overclocked 9700pro and the game still seem to lag at times. I have all latest drivers etc. I didn't think I would need to turn down the settings with the system I'm running.

Mine is running superbly, nice crisp clesr graphics at 1024x768 32bit with high detail... System is XP2100(retail HSF), 512mb 333 crucial RAM, GA-7VAXP mainbord, RADEON 9700pro, AUDIGY, 2x 60gb HDD's striped on RAID, 24x Miari CDRW and a STAR DVDROM..... No stuttering , frame rate loss, and I am now defending the old marine base whilst my ship is getting repaired....

What's the difference between this game and Unreal 2k3?

Gillian, 2003 is multiplayer. Unreal 2 is single player. New weapons, a Plot :), cool weapons.

Alas, like a bright star, it shines very brightly but doesn't last very long.

I'm writing a review for it right now... Should be on gamepyre.com by monday.

I don't have big frame rate lose only occasinally. The game seems to stuter mostly after I do a quick save. I am still enjoying the game alot.

I have yet to try out the included level editor. Hopefully there will be some cool player designed levels to keep the game alive, but Multiplayer is greatly missed. The multiplayer code is still in the game, but it dates back to the first Unreal version (not unreal tournament).

I seem to be having a similar problem to joeyscales- a bit of stuttering and sometimes the characters look like terminator2! kind of marbly... I'm running a xp2400+, 128 mb geforce4, 512mb ddr ram but an old hard drive- could that be it? do i need a faster hdd?

Do you have EAX enabled under the Audio setup? Try disabling it and see what happens. There is also a handy key that will display the Average and current FPS in game. By default it is "p".

Ok- i've made some good progress! Thanks johnny- but i was just in need of a damn good driver upgrade! Graphics are all smooth as silk...
BUT- sometimes the sound stutters during the cutscenes, despite new drivers for mt AC'97 onboard sound chip.... could it be that a new sound card is needed? ( i think i'm going to have to re-mortgage the house! )
Thanks (i'll post this in a new thread too)
