Is HDMI really worth it for XBOX 360?

Postby hunter1801 » Fri Jan 25, 2008 7:12 pm

I'm not sure which system I should get, the Elite, or the Premium/Pro edition.

Elite: Comes with HDMI, 120g HD, and it's black
Premium/Pro: Does not come with HDMI cable (has normal HD), 20g HD

I don't really need anything more than the 20g, so 120 is just overkill. I would really like a black system, but I'm starting to care less about that.

I'm just not sure if I even need the HDMI. Does it really make that much of a noticeable difference between regular HD? If you had to compare HD vs HDMI, would it matter enough to justify the price?

So basically, if you had $480 (about the price of an Elite after taxes) to spend on an Xbox, which one would you get? The Elite, or the Premium/Pro? Make this decision knowing you don't need the 120 gigs.

about 4 monthes ago, i was in your exact position. the truth is, if you have a high resolution monitor, or tv with an HDMI input, definitly go elite. the difference between standard hd and hdmi are somewhat noticable, depending on the quality of tv you have... with my 360, i went with an HDMI system, although i did not get the elite,

this is because i went with the HALO 3 Special Edition package: cool olive green controller, console and headset. the console is essentially a recolored elite, with the one exception being the hard drive. it only comes with a 20gig drive. honestly, unless you are downloading movies, demos and other content off the marketplace by the dozen, the 120gig drive is pretty much useless

my recommendation is: get the elite, the HDMI is somewhat noticable on good tvs and the 120 gig drive, although unnessisary, is a nice touch, as well as the slick black theme...

you don't need to get the elite to get HDMI...the premium comes with it as well now.

i used to have the elite, specifically for the HDMI, but after it was stolen i went to get my replacement, and found the premium w/ HDMI.

personally, i love HDMI since it makes hooking up everything so insanely easy. i have a onkyo receiver w/ HDMI in and outs to my tv...simple as pie. excellent quality...love it.

The Premium does not come with the HDMI cable. I comes with HD and an HDMI ready port, but no cable. The cable costs $50 extra. Unless it's a bundle that comes WITH the HDMI cable, but I'm guessing that would still cost more. If you have a link showing where I can get a Premium with HDMI for $349 (price of premium package) post it pls.

I was actually just comparing prices, and the Elite is only $100 more than the Premium. If I bought the Premium and wanted to get HDMI, I would pay $50 more, making the total difference now only $50. An extra $50 for 100g more, and a black 360.....I'll take it. A 120g HD alone costs about $160 anyways, so at only $50 more, I think I might as well do it.

a 50$ HDMI cable...apparently you are going for the monster brand. you can find off brands for less than 30$ per cable..

just saying - you don't need the elite for HDMI.

Well the $50 one is for Microsoft's brand. I can find them way cheaper, but I don't know about their quality.

yes, the "xbox hdmi" cable is a rip, just like most proprietary equipment, any other respectable brand will work fine, so long as you are not using the component connecter for the spdif out, then some fancy cable brands my not fit the recessed area

i didn't get the microsoft brand cable, but got one from my local electronics store for $25 plus tax...

I have the elite, and I don`t think the black color is worth it. In fact, I really think the black looks cheap. They should have made it nicer, it is way too washed out. On the other hand you would be surprised just how quickly you will fill up the smaller hdd. It is worth it for that alone. You could easily fill that 20gb with demos, and don`t forget that 20gb doesn`t mean you actually get 20gb of free space

I just delete all the demos after I am done with it. When I first got the xbox 360 I deleted all the stuff I did not need. I have had it since last Christmas and still have 13.3 gb left on it.
