I keep looking and wondering what wattage I should use. 500? 400? does it really even matter honestly?

Im seeing alot...well ok allof you are saying go with the ATI, just curious as to why? :)

And wow, those Tagan's are a hekuva lot cheaper 8O Thanks Peanya :D

Depending on what price range you are looking at video cards in, sometimes the better choice is an ati chipset and at other price ranges the nVidia is the better choice. In this particular case, when comparing the nVidia GF FX5700 with an ati Radeon 9600XT, the 9600XT is the better performer of the two especially considering the price of the two types of cards is nearly identical.

On the wattage of your psu, not only is total wattage output important, but the number of amps per rail as well. To determine the wattage of your power supply you need to get, figure up the total wattage that will be used by your system and then figure in some extra wattage for any additional hard ware that you might add to your system in the future like extra hard drives, a more powerful video card, and extra devices that would use more wattage. Here is an online calculator, . If you read over the forums here and at other sites, you will see that most people are recommending at least 20 to 22amps or more on the +12V rail. Your system that you have laid would use roughly a minimum of around 360W. If you bought a 380W or 400W psu, it would not leave you alot of room for upgrades, but it would be adequate and work. A Tagan 450W, 470W or 480W would be a nice PSU that would provide more than enough power for your system and give you room to upgrade.
