I've got to agree with bonesxtr here.

I've dealt with Microdirect for the last 5 years, and consistently find them to be one of the cheapest dealers in the UK. I've heard they supply many other small UK PC shops. Could be wrong, though.

Service is fast and staff are experienced.

Postby FirstTimer » Fri May 28, 2004 7:14 pm

Does anyone know of any retail stores you could walk into and buy mobo's cpu's or hd's in the Boston - NH - RI area?

You're going to pay more if you want to walk in the store
Here the list with one little twist...
No real high ends, so it depends..
Were you looking for good stuff or mobos with no fluff?

Yeah, I started at microcenter on mem-drive in cambridge just talking to the sales reps - that's when I first considered OC'ing

Then I went to CompUSA, but the selection isn't what I hoped for...

I guess I'm gradually shifting away from impatient-impulse purchases...

which is agood thing right? :D

Yes it is. If you can, order from Newegg and zipzoomfly in the states.

In Canada:

ChipLogic Computers Inc.
I just came across this site today, but it seems pretty good for some prices (especially processors) but I haven't given it a really good look yet. The draw back is that they don't have online ordering yet, but they said that shipping could be set up if you e-mail them.

Canada Computers
I've been doing a lot of price research on Canadian sites recently, and I can say this is the best place that I've found so far. I haven't ordered anything from them yet, (actually I'll probably just go down and see them personally) so I can't speak for their service or shipping. But I do know their prices look pretty damn good!

(Triple post)

Mods/Admins FYI: After I hit the "Submit" button the first (and second) time, I received an error that read: "No post mode specified".

UK Tip

Postby quantumbastard » Thu Jul 08, 2004 7:10 am

Essential tip for peeps in the UK:

Small businesses can claim VAT back on computer equipment (for business use)! So... if you know of anyone self-employed (with a business bank account) then order your gear through them if you can, and you'll make 17.5% discount! I always do this with my Dad ;)

I do stuff for the business also occasionally, so it's arguably fine by the tax man. :D
My first AMD Athlon worked for a full 30 seconds without a fan before it fried. I was damn impressed after I'd stopped kicking myself.
