I am going to replace the existing XP OS on my system to a clean install of Windows7
Based on what my current system (see below), are there any recommendations of what hardware is worth upgrading before I perform the installation?
Unless it provides a significant improvement I am not going to bother upgrading.

Intel DQ35JOE
Intel Core 2 DUO Q6600 Quad Core 4gb - 2.40 Ghz
2gb 800mhz DDR2 DIMM

This all comes with a caveat of "I have no idea how you plan on using this"...

depending on your usage, Win7 on 2gb could really be stretching it. the major improvement of going to Win7 and being 64bit is allowing >4gb ram utilization, so...IMHO, you should max your memory to 8gb.

depending on your sourcing, you can get 2gb sticks @ 800mhz for generally about 10, to about 20 per 2gbstick. Basically a 50-80 dollar upgrade to get the most out of the OS.

Second on my list...I always go SSD.

Next would possibly be the CPU, but, you'd max out on a Q9650, which is somewhere near that 80$ cost as well. some q6600's overclock really well...so this might not be needed if you're willing to try your hand at OC'ing - could require better cooling (20-30$ coolers are surprisingly capable).

You can get a pretty sizable GPU if you wanted to, but they are still pretty expensive.

Your system should be compatible, but what type of graphics is used? PCI is a bit obsolete, PCI-E is the current trend. If on-board graphics, might be compatible. But use this link to check compatibility. If using on-board graphics, allocate the 'video aperture' amount to no more than 25% of total system memory.
