newbie first build questions

Postby dmaarre » Wed Mar 09, 2016 5:19 pm

Newbie here looking to do first time desktop build. I've watched plenty of video's on the build process, looks pretty simple and straight forward so I don't foresee any issues there. What I'm having issues with is picking the components, specifically the CPU and MOBO. I'm totally confused with the number of options there is and don't know how to pick a CPU which it's my understanding is the place I need to start. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Following is what the computer will be used for in order of importance.

Photo editing
Home/Office
Gaming
Web browsing

It will need to have WiFi since I'm unable to run an Ethernet cable to it and the budget will be between $800-$1000 USD.

Thanks

most all your tasks listed are pretty general and pretty much any build will suit those needs. However, how intense are the games you intend to play?

PCI-E is the current standard for video cards. If going with intense gaming and want good graphics, a card with at least 1 GB of fast memory and core is recommended. Best would be one with its own exhaust port, so as to dump waste heat out of the case.
I am running a GTX480 on my F@H rig. Has performed great for more than a year, with about 15 hours daily use.
