interesting... we left Seagate a while back, because of drives with firmware issues (sd15) long time back (they had bad 500 and 750 gig drives for a while), and never looked back at them. use pretty much all western dig, a few hitachi's models now.

btw, does anyone know how long mini sas cables can go? theoretically and in practice? sandisk is saying not beyond three meters for their setup, but I know sas can travel further on a cable. here's the cable we are using...

Nope you are right, they are still priced out of the low end enterprise market.

Normal SAS cable 6Gbps is about 18 feet, but some say up to 24 feet and that includes min SAS.
