Configuration Advice needed for Evaluating OS/Database/SW

Postby unniks » Wed May 07, 2014 11:08 pm

Hi

I want to upgrade my existing computer (AMD-AM2/4GB 64bit OS) with a new one.
Basically this new computer will be used to learn/evaluate new Databases/IDEs/Softwares as current one crawls on its knees.

Number of Partitions: 2 (Windows and *nix)
Number of Active OS running at same time: 2+ (Host OS and atleast 1 OS in VM)

All the evaluation/experiments will be done in VMs so that the Host OS needed not be rebuild again and again. Only the VMs needed to be rebuilt.
Typically in VM (in linux 64bit as host) the following software will be evaluated (in the near future)
OS: Windows Server 2012 - Evaluation Version
Database: SQL Server 2014 - Evaluation Version
IDE: Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate - Evaluation Version
The VM will be rebuilt quite often to evaluate others like Oracle/db2....

Configuration
CPU: i5, 4440 or i7, 4770
Motherboard: Intel DH87MC 4th Generation Motherboard
RAM: Corsair XMS3 DDR3 8 GB or 16GB max
Cabinet: ??
SMPS: Corsair VS550 550 Watt PSU
HDD: 1TB (Seagate Baracuda)
Monitor: Any (Dell S2420L 24" Full HD LED Monitor)

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks and Regards,
Unni
