Pair of computer recommendations

Postby Divingsoccerplayer » Thu Apr 25, 2013 9:40 pm

One of my on campus organizations has some extra money and we decided to upgrade a pair of computers that we have. We have about 1600$ to spend on the components between the two of them. These computers will be used mostly for engineering work (things like solid works, autocad, or mathmatica) and some games, mostly flight simulators. These will be fairly commonly used computers and, as they will technically belong to the school, I don't think overclocking is an option. The biggest thing I am looking for is a cpu/mother board recommendation but other component recommendations are welcome. Thanks!

Is there anything recyclable from those systems or are you building from scratch?

Not really. They are older Core 2 duo builds using the older Conroe core processors (6550 if I recall correctly). The optical drives are the only thing maybe.

What video card is in there? CAD specific cards are usually better recyclable for some odd reason. Modern gaming cards many times cannot reach their performance if used in the same situation. Having a CAD workstation build for $800 is stretching things...

They just run off of integrated graphics...they were repurposed old administration computers.
