Hi all!

Im looking into building a new AMD system for a freind. since i got my system:

(kt3ultra2+sound
256mb2700ddr
ASUS Geforce4 ti-4200)

im thinking of basically building the same system again.

I found that they are new mobos out with AGP8x and kt400, plus of course graphic cards with AGP8x.

Is kt400 any good? can anyone recommend a card with sound on and AGP8x?
how big is the difference with ddr3200/ddr2700?
how big is the difference with AGP8x/AGP4x?

Or should i get a kt333 card with AGP8x [/quote]

The improvement of KT400 over previous boards is slim, but may be worth while if you are looking for a new motherboard with 8x support. However I would also consider the nforce2 motherboards. If you don't see a clear choice in what board is for you, then it would probably be best to wait for the KT400a chips to arive. Either way the KT400 or nforce2 boards will support 333fsb AMD chips.

At this time there is no performance increase with either the AGP 8x or the 400mhz ram.

AMD has only recently released their 166mhz fsb processors......this equals the pc2700 ram.

I'm hoping (gambling) that the future increases in performance cards, CPU's, and ram will allow me to upgrade on my new board, as I only build a new PC every few years and upgrade whenever prices are resonable.

Ill second the nforce2 suggestion, should give a more stable solution and the sound on it will be great.
