Video card / WS LCD question.

Post by Zyne »

Greetings,

I would like to buy a Radeon HD 3870, but my problem is it only has Dual DVI and S-Video inputs and I'm still using my 17" CRT. The WS LCD by BenQ I want is still out of my reach for the moment because of the price, but I would like to get this video card. Is there anyway to use it with my CRT?

It will come with a DVI-> VGA adapter. Or it should.

Is it even worth it or should I just wait unti lI get my LCD? I heard converting Analog to DVI is very poor quality.

You will be converting from DVI to VGA and although technically there will be some signal loss, it should not be noticeable unless you are running at insanely high resolutions of 1920 x XXXX or more.

It'll still look great. Go for it and you'll be ready to go straight digital with DVI once you get your LCD. :D

Will any DVI to VGA adapter do or are there different types in terms of quality? The Radeon 3870 seems to be a very good card for it's price, which compares to or is even better than the Radeon 2900XT overall. I've been trying to play Crysis, and even on low my crappy Geforce 8500 GTs just dont cut it. I want the 3870 =).

Also, what's the price range for the adapters?

They're all the same.

Dirt cheap. They're included with nearly every video card made.

Thanks for all the info. I was ready to buy the card then I forgot it only had DVI inputs and I was using my crappy CRT monitor. I guess it'll have to do until I get my 24" BenQ =\.

Last I checked, these are what the ATi based 38XX cards are shipped with:

DVI to VGA/D-sub Adapter
DVI to HDMI Adapter
S-Video to Composite Adapter

I'm debating whether or not I should wait until February and get the Radeon 3870 X2 (or 3890 whatever it is) instead of getting the 3870. What do you guys think?
