Hi, long time since I've been on here but remembered my logon first go lol! 8)

Anyway...

I want to try out VR, I have a GA-970A-DS3 (rev. 3.0) with an FX-6100 on + 16Gb RAM currently.

I'm wondering which is the best CPU to upgrade to?

Thanks in anticipation of any help.

Just seen my PC specs underneath, think I need to update...

Your fine with what you have. VR is more dependent on GPU than CPU. Ran VR on lads PC running a Phenom X6 1090T. It originally hat a GTX 960. Turned out that was the bottleneck. Upgraded to a GTX 1060 6Gb and the difference was huge. if you feel you have to upgrade the CPU, look at an 8 Core CPU, like an FX-8320.(VR was HTC Vive)..

Many thanks for the reply

I was hoping the CPU would be up to the job, there is a little room for OC, but I've never needed to before.

What is the 'E' suffix for? FX-8320E

They have them at my local supplier (Scan) for £121

The FX-8320E runs at a lower TDP (95w vs 125w) - but beyond that it's essentially the same thing. Your particular board supports both - some lower-end boards wouldn't support TDPs > 100w, hence the option to get an E version.

A higher TDP will allow a higher overclock over base clock speed - which, the E is 3.2ghz and the non-E is 3.4ghz.
