annoying pop up in XP

Postby icdengineer » Thu Oct 03, 2002 10:26 am

Every time I log in to XP I get this annoying pop up screen that says
"You or a Program you are using is requesting an internet connection...blah blah"
There is a box to check saying don't ask me again until I log on next time..
Is there anyway to get rid of this signal? what is it anyway?

Well "a Program you are using is requesting an internet connection" :P

The message box is giving you the answer to your question. Something like Kazza, AIM/MSN/ICQ/Etc.., Seti (and the list goes on) is starting up when you first login.
You should go through each program you have in your task bar and see what might be doing it.
You can also goto MSCONFIG and click on the startup tab and disable anything running in the background that is not needed.

Check here for a list of possible programs:

Yep you'll have to examine the options available in the individual programs and there are entries in MSCONFIG for them aswell...
